Background
The Hills Centre is a community theatre and centre the provides a venue for community groups. It is used by dance clubs, choirs, schools, churches, youth groups, community groups, businesses, women's groups and drama clubs.
Hills Centre was opened in Sep 1988 as part of a bicentennial project. It basically put the Castle Hill on the map. They used to have Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Australian Ballet, Australian children’s choir, various plays, wedding receptions etc. as well as community groups, ballet recitals, school festivals etc. The council lost money in the building. They lost money from the previous management as they stopped getting in shows. After Hillsong left, it created a big gap in finances. Since 2010 the COC (Empower church) has paid council 100,000 + 5% and have managed the centre at no cost to the council. Part of the land where the Hills Centre car park is was donated to council for recreation and gardens.
